Kept records your meetings without a bot, transcribes and labels speakers on your Mac, and files the note and transcript as plain markdown in your Obsidian vault, with the audio saved alongside.

Why Kept

  • Speakers named, on device.

Local multi-speaker diarization identifies who's talking on your Mac, while Granola, the category leader, still ships only "Me/Them" labels on desktop. Wrong speaker attribution is the most common complaint in the category's own reviews.

  • Your files, no export button.

Every note and transcript lands in your Obsidian vault as plain markdown, the audio file right beside them, yours the moment they're saved. Fireflies and tl;dv both draw reviewer complaints for charging to export recordings you already made.

  • Every action item shows its supporting quote.

Each action item links to the line in the transcript that produced it, so you can check it before you trust it. Reviewers report action items assigned to people who weren't even in the meeting. Kept's schema requires a supporting quote for every one, no exceptions.

Questions

Does this run on-device? Is my data private?
Recording, transcription, and speaker diarization always happen on your Mac. Your audio never leaves the machine to get transcribed. Turning that transcript into a note and action items runs through one of three modes you choose: Apple Intelligence on-device, transcript-only, or Codex CLI through your ChatGPT login. Only the Codex mode sends anything off your Mac.
Where do my files go?
Into the Obsidian vault you point Kept at. Every meeting writes the note and transcript as plain markdown and the audio as a standard M4A file, no proprietary format and no export button, because there's nothing to export.
What needs a ChatGPT login?
Only Codex mode, and it's optional. Kept's other two processing modes, Apple Intelligence on-device and transcript-only, never touch ChatGPT. Codex mode is there if you want Codex's note quality and you're already signed in.
What Mac do I need?
macOS 26 or later.
