Actions with a source.
Every action points to the transcript evidence that produced it. The quote is saved with the action in the meeting file, and selecting it in Kept opens the transcript at that line.

Your vault holds the meeting.
Kept writes the note, transcript, audio, and manifest directly into the Obsidian vault you select. Plain Markdown beside a standard M4A. There is no export step and no app database to leave behind.

Built for Obsidian
Kept writes into an Obsidian vault because Obsidian gets file ownership right. It is a free notes app that stores everything as plain Markdown on your disk, so your meetings land beside the rest of what you know and link into it.
- Plain files. A vault is a folder on your Mac. Every Kept meeting inside it is ordinary Markdown.
- Connected notes. Link a meeting to projects, people, and decisions, then find it again from any of them.
- Free to use. Download it, create a vault, point Kept at it.
Where your data goes
Recording, transcription, and speaker labeling run on your Mac. The audio is written to your vault and nowhere else. Kept never uploads audio.
Turning a transcript into a note runs through the mode you choose:
- Apple Intelligence
- Writes the note on-device. Nothing leaves the machine.
- Transcript only
- Skips note generation. You get the transcript and audio, untouched.
- Codex, optional
- Sends transcript text through your own ChatGPT login for note writing. Off unless you enable it, and it never receives audio.
